Adventurous
Our world has changed. More than ever, our students need schooling to inspire, to motivate, and to foster self-belief. As educators, we must provide students with experiences that offer engaging and creative ways to interact with relevant material and practice valuable skills. This requires teaching that feels exciting, innovative, and permits students to take risks and develop their authentic voice.
Bold
Modern technology and the internet are here to stay. We can't shield young people from the real-world exposure
that they provide, but we can equip them with the tools needed to critically evaluate sources of information and rhetoric. Likewise, we cannot afford to ignore the inequities that permeate our society, and instead must commit to supporting students to identify, challenge, and dismantle racist and prejudicial practices within our communities and beyond.
Challenging
Students who aren't engaged in cognitive struggle aren't growing, and it is a disservice for students to reach AP classes, college, or a career path, and be unprepared for the rigor and self-awareness required to be successful. We must provide high quality instruction that pushes students’ thinking and leadership abilities, because we grow when we’re encouraged to learn and practice skills slightly beyond our current capabilities.
